WELCOME TO SABI STUD
OUR STORY

Welcome to Sabi Stud. Our appaloosa and Quarter Horse stud is situated in the wilds of Zimbabwe, Africa.
The Sabi Star is a plant renowned for its natural beauty. Known also as the “desert rose” its vibrant pink flowers appear on the stem of the bush in the driest months of the year, igniting the landscape with colour and beauty. Our stud is named after this amazing plant because our horses also thrive and bring joy in the tough African landscape.

The stud was formed in 2020 by Dr Gemma Campling, Born in England, she graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2014 as a veterinarian, moving straight out to Zimbabwe to work with horses and wildlife. Gemma has been a horse lover from a young age having ridden since 5 and owned horses since 14. Her first horse, a little Welsh Section D mare called Tanwen, furthered her love of horses and from there she has never looked back, having owned, and ridden ever since.

Gemma has worked and ridden all over Africa, from leading holiday guests on the beaches of Mozambique, to safaris in bush of South Africa, the Okavango Delta and the deserts of Egypt. She loves the continent with a passion, and developed the dream of starting a small bespoke stud in Zimbabwe to produce beautiful horses who could be loved, nurtured and join their new owners for a lifetime of fun and adventure.

The stud does live covers for our own mares and those who board with us for breeding. Gemma also performs Artificial Insemination with chilled and frozen semen for boarding mares, which can be imported from most countries around the world, widening the possibility of blood lines available in Southern Africa. We specialize in breeding and training beautiful appaloosas and quarter horses who can excel in all disciplines from dressage, to evening, polo to reining. Please head over to the "horses" page to meet our beautiful breeding stock and horses in training.

MEET THE HORSES
